Ellie's Summer Memories
Creepy Crawlies Caravan
I was about 8 years old when we went on our first holiday to the seaside. Mum and dad had booked a caravan on a site overlooking the sea. It was only about 2 or 3 hours drive but it felt like it took ages to get there. I was so excited. The holiday brochure promised, "a nearby beach, on-site amusements and a chip shop" (open late!!).
As soon as we arrived, we piled all our stuff into the caravan and headed for the beach. We had a great afternoon playing in the sea and sand while mum and dad chilled out in stripey deck chairs. All too soon, it was time to go back to the caravan for tea but mum promised us fish n chips so we didn't mind too much.
And after a few hours of board games, it was soon time for bed. As I laid my head on the pillow, I noticed a small, brown insect had joined me - an earwig. Mum was squeamish about creepy crawlies so she called dad to put it outside. Then my brother found two on his bed, and then mum spotted some crawling around near the cups, and pretty soon, earwigs were coming out from all over the place. We barely slept that night. We left the next morning and went home. No creepy crawlies there!
